Cops: Yonkers man fought, robbed and dumped passenger on LIE

A Yonkers man was arraigned Saturday on robbery and endangerment charges after Nassau police said he took his passenger's cellphone and cash and then kicked her out of his vehicle on the Long Island Expressway in Jericho.

Daniel C. Toone, 30, pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree robbery and second-degree reckless endangerment at First District Court in Hempstead.

Toone was jailed on bail of $10,000 bond or $5,000 cash.

Toone, who a court-appointed attorney said works as a delivery driver, was ordered to stay away from the alleged victim, with whom he lives. Toone is scheduled to return to court Wednesday.

Toone was driving west on the LIE about 7 p.m. Tuesday when he and the woman, 28, began to argue, police said. "As the argument escalated, Toone began to punch the victim in the face, breaking her glasses and injuring her eye," according to a news release.

He pulled over to the shoulder and took the woman's cellphone, cash and personal papers from her pocketbook, then "physically kicked the victim out of the vehicle," police said.

Toone continued westbound, leaving her on the side of the road. Another driver stopped and called police, the release said.

Toone repeatedly hit the victim on both sides of her head before kicking her out of the vehicle, court papers indicated. Court documents said the victim suffered cuts to both knees and head swelling.

When Second Squad detectives and Yonkers police tried to arrest Toone at his residence Friday, he struggled, "causing minor injuries" to two Yonkers officers, police said.
