Father, son trade blows in Malverne, police say
It was a father-and-son fight, Nassau County police said.
The son punched and kicked his dad, then struck him with "a police-type baton." The father threw a knife at his son, causing a laceration to his chest.
The son, identified as Mickey A. Dolinski, 29, of Oxford Street, Malverne, was arrested at the hospital by police following the incident Tuesday.
His father, 60, whose identity was not released, has not been charged.
Police said the duo got into an argument in the home at about 7:30 p.m. Police said Dolinski "began punching and kicking the victim repeatedly," then hit him with the baton. Police said the father went to the kitchen, got a knife and threw it at his son.
A family member drove the son to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside. The hospital staff notified police. Malverne and Nassau police both began an investigation. Officers took the father to a hospital with possible broken ribs. The son was transferred to Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola. Police arrested him there at 3:53 a.m.
Dolinski was charged with second-degree assault. He was scheduled for arraignment Wednesday at Winthrop.
