Authorities announced they had secured search warrants Saturday, in a bid to learn more about a Great Neck man suspected of abducting a woman at gunpoint from a bus stop last month.
Police did not specify where they were searching, but they announced the arrest of Sirus Kashimallak, 50, of Cherry Lane, who was accused of forcing a woman into his car. Police also said they were looking for other possible victims.
"We have concerns that there may have been other incidents that went unreported," Steven Skrynecki, chief of department for the Nassau County police, said at a news conference at county police headquarters in Mineola. "We are looking for anyone who may have had contact with him."
On Thursday, authorities arrested Kashimallak in last month's incident after he approached another woman, this time in Kings Point, who recognized him from a police sketch and alerted investigators, Nassau County police said.
Kashimallak, 50, was charged with kidnapping and sexual abuse after he was identified by the victim of the Nov. 21 abduction, which occurred in Great Neck, police said. He was arraigned Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead, and was released Saturday on a $2 million bond, officials said.
"We consider this man a dangerous individual," Skrynecki said. "This is clearly predatory activity."
The abduction began, police said, when the suspect stopped at the bus stop, sat on a bench next to a 38-year-old woman, brandished a handgun and ordered her into his car. "Fearful for her life, she complied with this individual," Skrynecki said.
The man then drove her throughout the Great Neck area for about 30 minutes and sexually abused her, before releasing her near the Great Neck railroad station, Skrynecki said.
Police said that Thursday evening, Kashimallak pulled up to a bus stop in front of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point and tried to talk to a woman waiting there.
The woman, who police did not identify, thought he resembled the sketch on fliers distributed in the area after the abduction, police said.
She refused to speak with him, and the man drove away, but she wrote down his license plate number and called police, Skrynecki said.
A short time later, Kings Point police officers stopped a car driven by Kashimallak near the intersection of Middle Neck and Beach roads and arrested him, police said.
