Hempstead man charged with cashing dead mother's Social Security checks, police say
Nassau police have arrested a Hempstead man who they said cashed forged Social Security checks made out to his dead mother.
Police said Tony Theirse, 43, entered PLS Check Cashers at 10 E. Sunrise Hwy. in Freeport on several different occasions between Oct. 6 and Feb. 6 and cashed more than $3,000 worth of Social Security checks belonging to his mother.
Police said Major Case Bureau detectives arrested Theirse on Thursday in front of his home at 37 Martin Luther King Dr. He is charged with third-degree grand larceny and five counts of second-degree possession of a forged instrument.
Theirse is scheduled to be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
