Three Baldwin residents were arrested Friday afternoon after they allegedly stole an imitation machine gun and a jar of change, Nassau County police said.

Police said John Bunting, 20, of 2143 Pine St., Al-Jaleel Johnson, 20, of 1530 Mattison St., and Melissa Garrett, 23, of 2143 Pine St., entered the unlocked rear basement entrance of a Harrison Avenue residence about 12:15 p.m., police said. They took an imitation airsoft machine gun and a Mason jar containing an unknown amount of change, left the home and while fleeing to their parked vehicle, were confronted by a witness, according to police.

After dropping the Mason jar, police said, the three got into the car and fled. The witness called 911, giving police the vehicle's license plate number.

After a notification was broadcast, the suspects' vehicle was seen traveling on Sunrise Highway at Brookside Avenue by officers. The vehicle was stopped and the three were arrested.

All three were charged with second-degree burglary and are scheduled to be arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead.
