A Wantagh man was arrested Friday afternoon on theft and burglary charges after he tried to rent out a vacant home, Nassau County police said.

Police said John Wallace, 25, knew of the vacant home on First Avenue in Massapequa Park and listed it on Craigslist.

A male victim asked to see the home, and Wallace gave him an inside tour on Oct. 10, police said.

The victim returned three days later to see the house again and gave Wallace $2,500, police said.

An investigation led to Wallace's arrest on South Main Street in Freeport. He was charged with two counts of second-degree burglary and fourth-degree grand larceny.

Arraignment was scheduled Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Those with information about the case or people who believe they are victims of Wallace should call the Seventh Squad at 516-573-6752.
