LaGuardia flights still delayed due to fog
As of noon Tuesday, some flights coming into LaGuardia Airport were still delayed an average of 28 minutes, resulting from a "traffic management program" brought on by the morning's low cloud ceiling, according to the Federal Aviation Administration's website.
The FAA is advising those traveling to the airport Tuesday to call their carriers to see if their flights are affected by weather.
Dense fog and low cloud ceilings Tuesday morning caused dozens of delays and cancellations to flights into and out of LaGuardia Airport, officials said.
About 10 flights bound for LaGuardia had been diverted to other airports, the Federal Aviation Administration reports.
Flights into and out of Kennedy and Long Island MacArthur were not affected by the fog, according to the FAA. There were delays, however, into and out of Newark-Liberty International.
The Port Authority, which operates the three big metropolitan area airports, had reported delays to almost 50 Tuesday morning flights with an additional 23 flights canceled as of 9 a.m.
About 10 flights bound for LaGuardia were diverted en route, those flights landing in Windsor Locks, Conn., Latrobe, Pa., Boston, Albany, Allentown, Pa., and upstate Newburgh. Those flights all involved regional commuter aircraft.
The National Weather Service issued a dense fog advisory for Long Island, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island on Tuesday; the advisory was in effect until 10 a.m.
Fog conditions are also expected Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, meaning overnight and early morning flights could be affected.
