A person was struck and killed Wednesday by a Long Island Rail Road train on the Montauk branch, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
The incident led to delays on the branch that have now resolved, said the website of the MTA, which runs the LIRR.
MTA spokeswoman Laura Cala-Rauch said that the person was struck at about 2:13 p.m. in Farmingdale on the tracks west of the South Main Street Crossing, and the person was declared dead 10 minutes later.
No criminality is suspected. The determination of the person's identity is pending, she said.
Roughly 20 people are killed every year on the Long Island Rail Road tracks, according to MTA reporting.
