A 24-year-old woman died days after she was critically injured last week when the driver of a Mercedes-Benz jumped a Manhattan curb, struck three pedestrians and pinned the victim against a light pole, the NYPD said.

Police identified the victim as Mallory Weisbrod of Manhattan. Weisbrod, formerly of Old Bethpage, was a 2008 graduate of Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School. School officials recalled Tuesday that she was an outstanding student.

"Mallory will always be remembered by the kind and caring spirit she brought to the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District community," John F. Kennedy High School Principal James Murray said in a statement. "Everyone who knew Mallory thought of her as a wonderful person with great potential. Her loss is a tragedy for the entire district and community and she will be deeply missed."

There have been no arrests, police said, and an investigation is underway by the NYPD's collision investigation squad.

On Aug. 10, police responded to the accident on Second Avenue near East 49th Street about 4:30 p.m. Investigators said a 64-year-old driver of a 2004 Mercedes-Benz traveling south veered to the right, drove onto the curb and struck women, ages 21, 23 and 24.

Weisbrod was pinned against a light pole. She was taken to Bellevue Hospital Center along with the 23-year-old victim, who was not identified. The 21-year-old, also not identified, declined medical attention.

The driver, whom police later identified as Dimas Debrito, also was taken to Bellevue. His condition was not known.

A family member of Weisbrod's said Tuesday that she died Saturday, but declined to comment further.
