Man charged with shooting two in car
A 22-year-old Baldwin man was arrested Wednesday in Manhattan and charged with two counts of attempted murder after police said he shot two men in the head as they sat in a car outside a park in Baldwin early Tuesday morning.
Nassau County police said Rochell Davis of Milburn Avenue was charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder after his arrest by homicide detectives and Bureau of Special Operations officers on East 122nd Street. He is scheduled for arraignment Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead.
Police said Davis approached the two victims, ages 22 and 23, as they sat in a car near Fox Road and Archer Place alongside Milburn Creek Park. Davis fired three shots through the driver's side door, striking both, police said.
Police have not detailed a motive for the shooting.
After being shot, the two men attempted to drive from Milburn Creek Park to South Nassau Communities Hospital -- about two miles away in Oceanside. But the men could not find the entrance to the hospital, and a patrol officer, after witnessing the car driving back and forth in the area along Merrick Road, initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Oceanside Road, police said. Police said when the officer saw both men had been wounded, he transported them to the hospital.
One of the victims was listed in serious condition, the other in stable condition. Neither was identified.
