Man sold liquor to minors, police say

A North Massapequa man sold alcohol to minors twice during in a 10-day span this month, Nassau County police said Monday.

During Project 21, a police initiative designed to monitor the sale of alcoholic beverages to minors, Mohammad Wakmal, 50, of 255 N. Atlanta Ave., twice sold to 17-year-olds, on March 1 and again on Sunday, Seventh Precinct police said.

Wakmal was working as a clerk at a mini mart at 903C N. Broadway in North Massapequa when he made the sales, first to a 17-year-old girl and then to a 17-year-old boy at about 8:05 p.m. Sunday, police said.

For each violation, Wakmal was issued a desk-appearance ticket for prohibited sale of alcohol to a person younger than 21, police said. He also was ticketed for unlawfully dealing with a child for the second incident.

He is due to appear at First District Court in Hempstead on March 20 and again on March 27.
