Nassau acknowledges glitch in iPhone app

Only days after its release, officials concede Nassau County's new iPhone app has a major hiccup.
First-time users of the mobile software are asked to register their personal information so they can get up-to-date information about upcoming events, news alerts and traffic advisories. The app can also be used to file complaints or concerns about problems in their neighborhood.
But iPhone users who attempt to type in their personal information during the registration process confront a frustrating problem: The interface does not allow them to hit the "Create New User" icon. The problem does not affect iPad users.
The county said it's working on the issue, which has persisted for more than two days.
Frustrated county officials, however, said they are considering canceling the contract with Locality Media, a Garden City company hired to set up and maintain the app.
"The administration is more than frustrated with Locality Media's inability to fix the problem in a timely matter and will re-evaluate the county's contract with this company," said Katie Grilli-Robles, a spokeswoman for County Executive Edward Mangano.
Andreas Huber, the company's chief executive and president, said there was a "minor bug" with the app but that it has been fixed and submitted to Apple for review. The Apple review process, he said, takes a few days to complete and the issue should be fully corrected by early next week.
Meanwhile, Nassau officials are encouraging users to register on a desktop or laptop computer at https://nassaunow.localitymedia.com/auth/login and then use those credentials to access the iPhone app.
