Another round of Nassau County's gun buyback program, which pays donors anonymously for turning in illegal firearms, took 192 "illegal and operable handguns" off the streets, Nassau police said.

Those guns, including a Tec-9, were collected Saturday at a Uniondale church, authorities said.

The operation, run jointly by Nassau County police and the district attorney's office, pays individuals $200 for each illegal gun. Guns were brought to the Uniondale Tabernacle of Joy Church at 1070 Brookside Ave. from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Since introducing the program in December 2008, agencies have collected 1,801 weapons, according to the county. Saturday marked the seventh collection in the program.
