Officer Mohit Arora, shot responding to home invasion, to receive Nassau police valor award

A Nassau County police officer who was shot in the abdomen while responding to a home invasion is the winner of the department's valor award, police said Wednesday.
Officer Mohit Arora of the Third Precinct will be presented the 2015 Theodore Roosevelt Association Police Valor Award, which recognizes Nassau County officers who have overcome disability, physical challenge or serious illness and have an outstanding record of police work.
Arora will receive the award at 11 a.m. Thursday in a ceremony at Sagamore Hill, the restored mansion of the 26th president in Cove Neck.
In a news release, police said it's the 21st year of the award and that the public is welcome to attend Thursday's presentation.
Arora, 34, was shot in August 2013 when he answered a call to a North New Hyde Park home about an armed masked intruder.
He joined the Nassau force in 2007, after spending more than three years with the NYPD as a patrol officer in Queens.
After being wounded Arora returned to unrestricted duty as a patrol officer with the Third Precinct, where he remains assigned, a department spokesman said.
