Graffiti involving racial, gang and sexual-related "tags" that were sprayed on onto residential and public properties and garbage cans in Wantagh and Bellmore are being investigated by Nassau County police.

Some of the incidents occurred overnight Thursday and into early Friday in Wantagh.

According to detectives, at about 7 a.m., police responded to a 911 call for graffiti that was spray painted on garbage cans belonging to a Beltagh Avenue residence. A subsequent investigation revealed that similar graffiti with racial, gang and sexual-related tags had been spray painted onto residential and public properties along Beltagh Avenue and continued to the walking bridge heading toward Wantagh High School.

Additional tags of the same nature were also reported at Wellington C. Mepham High School on Camp Avenue in Bellmore.

Detectives ask anyone with information about these incidents to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
