Police: Man robbed of cash on Hempstead street
Nassau County police said that a 45-year-old man gave two assailants, one with a metal rod, cash after they accosted him on a street Thursday night in Hempstead. Police said the assailants then forced the victim into his car, made him drive to a local deli and attempted to make him remove cash from an ATM there -- before the victim ran off.
The incident occurred at about 9:20 p.m.
Police said the victim was not injured during the incident, but said he was unable to give detailed descriptions of the two alleged robbers.
The duo allegedly stole $500 from the victim, police said.
The two then forced the man to drive to a deli on Thorne Avenue and Henry Street where one of the two robbers accompanied the victim inside, according to police. But, police said, the victim told one assailant he had forgotten his wallet and his ATM card, and then ran from the deli.
The two suspects then fled on foot, police said, leaving the victim's car at the scene.
Police asking anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
