Police: Manhasset woman arrested in DWI after striking officer

A Manhasset woman who allegedly hit a police officer directing traffic Sunday night in Bayville, then dragged him along the road because he was stuck in the car's mirror, has been arrested on charges of drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident, Nassau County police said.

Nadia Mansoor, 19, of Cherrywood Lane, was driving a 2006 BMW on Bayville Avenue at about 11:45 p.m. when she turned south onto Ludlam Avenue. An officer from the Second Precinct was directing traffic at the intersection, and Mansoor allegedly struck him with her car, police said.

The officer was dragged a "short distance," but he was able to free himself from the mirror, police said. He crawled to the side of the road and was taken to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset.

Police said he had no life-threatening injuries but did hurt his neck, legs and back.

Mansoor drove away but was pulled over by police at West Shore Road.

She is charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, possession of marijuana and driving an uninsured motor vehicle, police said. She is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in at First District Court in Hempstead.
