Police investigate after shots fired in East Rockaway
Police responding to a call of shots fired are searching for a suspect in a dark hooded sweatshirt who they said was seen chasing another man down a street in East Rockaway late Thursday, pointing a gun.
Nassau County police said the incident took place on Smith Street just after 10:30 p.m. A shell casing was found at the scene, police said.
Police have not identified a victim -- or a suspect.
Both the suspect and victim appeared to be in their 20s, police said. Police said it appears there were no injuries or property damage.
Police identified the weapon only as "a small black handgun" and said the suspect was pointing it at the victim while chasing him westbound on Smith. The caliber of the weapon was not released.
Police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
