Parts of two major state roadways on Long Island will be temporarily shut down during the middle of next week, according to the New York State Department of Transportation.

The first shutdown will be on the Sagtikos State Parkway in Islip Town. The state is closing the roadway’s southbound left lane, near Exit S2, from 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday until 6 a.m. on Wednesday, and then again during the same times on Thursday into Friday morning.

The closure is "due to maintenance on the bridge over the Long Island Expressway," according to the announcement from NYSDOT, which said the work could be rescheduled if weather makes it impermissible.

On Wednesday, the state will close a large chunk of the Southern State Parkway in Hempstead Town. The two left lanes in both directions from Exit 14 to Exit 17 will be shut down between 9 p.m. Wednesday and 5 a.m. Thursday.

And near Exit 16 on that stretch of roadway, "all lanes are subject to brief full closures" between 12:01 and 3 a.m. Thursday, according to the agency, which said "these stoppages are expected to be short in duration."

The Southern State Parkway shutdowns are meant "to facilitate the removal of an overhead sign structure," according to NYSDOT.
