An early morning fire Wednesday damaged the kitchen at a historic Jericho inn, police said.
Damage to The Milleridge Inn was characterized as "moderate," Nassau County police said.
No injuries were reported.
Police said the fire at the restaurant on North Broadway, a property whose history dates to 1672, was reported at 12:22 a.m. Volunteer firefighters from Jericho, East Norwich, Carle Place, Hicksville, Westbury, Plainview, Bethpage and Syosset responded, as did police officers from the Second Precinct.
Police said that upon "forced entry" to the rear kitchen area, firefighters found "a fire on top of the stove." The fire was determined to be non-suspicious.
Police said "moderate fire and water damage" was sustained, all in the kitchen area.
The restaurant, which has 10 private dining rooms, is part of a sprawling complex that includes the Inn, a cottage and shops on the site of Milleridge Village, established in 1672.
The restaurant itself has been in operation about 80 years, according to its website. It was not immediately clear if the fire damage will affect restaurant operations.
Repeated attempts to reach a representative of The Milleridge Inn were unsuccessful.
