Police: Florida man hit, killed crossing street in Lawrence

A Florida man was killed crossing the street in Lawrence on Friday night, Nassau County police said.
Theodore Schiffman, 82, of Boca Raton, was crossing Nassau Expressway at the intersection with Broadway when he was struck by a southbound 2013 Dodge near the center divider about 5:45 p.m., police said.
Schiffman was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead at 8:32 p.m. by hospital personnel.
The driver of the Dodge, a 66-year-old man, stayed at the scene, police said.
Police conducted a brake and safety test on the vehicle and released the car back to the driver.
No charges have been filed as police do not believe anything criminal took place.
