Troubled history at Baldwin home struck by gunmen

The Baldwin home on Washington Place - where gunmen on Tuesday mortally wounded one man and shot another in the stomach - has had a troubled history, Nassau police said.
In 2007, a victim was pistol-whipped and robbed inside the home. Two months after the crime, he suddenly stopped cooperating with investigating detectives, police said.
In 2009, cops pursued a taxicab fare-beater who fled inside the home and they found more than 200 teenagers, some drunk, partying with vodka and Cognac, police said.
And two weeks ago Friday, authorities said a robbery victim hid in the bushes as a gunman looted the home of electronics, a pit bull and a safe containing $10,000.
It was the Washington Place home's record of criminal activity that helped police detectives conclude that Tuesday's assailants - who remain at large - targeted the house, a police spokesman said Thursday.
Homicide detectives continued to look for clues Thursday to find the two or three assailants who killed the man, identified as a 49-year-old from Rosedale, on Tuesday at about 11 p.m., said police spokesman Det. Sgt. Anthony Repalone.
Police were awaiting results of a fingerprint check to conclusively identify the victim, he said.
The second shooting victim, shot in the stomach, is recovering at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, police said. Police did not release his name.
Michellie Chambers, the homeowner, was the same woman who was arrested in April 2009 when cops pursuing the accused fare-beater came upon the party. The man wasn't caught but Chambers, who was 36 at the time, was charged with violating the county's social host law and resisting arrest - a case that prosecutors say is still pending. She has owned the house since at least 2007, records show, and could not be reached Thursday.
In the October 2007 robbery, the assailant stole $1,000 and other items from the house. The victim was renting part of the two-story home. No arrest was made.
People on the block Thursday said the home has been the site of frequent parties and activity at odd hours.
