Suffolk County police investigate at the scene of a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on Nicolls Road in Stony Brook on Saturday evening. Credit: Neil Miller

An unidentified woman was killed Saturday evening when she was hit by a vehicle as she crossed Nicolls Road in Stony Brook, Suffolk County police said.

A 27-year-old driver was heading south on Nicolls Road in a 2025 Volkswagen when she struck the pedestrian near the intersection with Nesconset Highway at about 5:30 p.m., police said.

The pedestrian was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Police have not been able to identify the woman, but described her as about 30 to 40 years old.

The driver, from Commack, was not injured, police said.

No further information was immediately available.
