AMC Shore 8 in Huntington closed for plumbing repairs

The AMC Shore 8 movie theater in Huntington is closed for plumbing renovations until mid-March.

The multiscreen on Wall Street shut down last Monday for the planned repairs, a theater employee told Newsday on Sunday.

Movie posters were removed from the theater's exterior walls Sunday, and a sign on the door read it was "closed temporarily for maintenance."

"We appreciate our guests' patience and look forward to welcoming them back soon," AMC spokesperson Cassie Kennard wrote in a statement to Newsday.

Movie fans took to Facebook and Reddit, seeking assurance that the cinema hadn't closed its doors for good.

"I don’t go to the movies as often anymore (who does?) but that’s my go-to one when I do!" one woman wrote.

Others praised the downtown Huntington theater for showing "nonmainstream movies" and offering discounts at weekday matinees.

"If they are improving the ladies room I’m all for it," wrote one female commenter.

Updates on when the theater will reopen can be found on the AMC website. 

It's at least the second multiscreen theater on Long Island to close for repairs in the past week.

In Holtsville, the Island 16 Cinema de Lux closed for a few days after officials found its fire detection system was faulty. Several theater exits were also blocked by snow, a Brookhaven Town spokesperson said.

The theater reopened Friday.
