Cops: Bay Shore man killed in Deer Park motorcycle crash
A Bay Shore man died Sunday afternoon after his motorcycle collided with a sport utility vehicle in Deer Park carrying a family of six, Suffolk County police said.
Brendan Coolbaugh, 24, was riding a 2000 Kawasaki motorcycle at about 5 p.m. northbound on Bay Shore Road when it collided with a 2011 Mazda CX 9, police said. The Mazda was heading in the opposite direction and making a left turn into a gas station at the time of the crash, police said.
The Mazda driver, Janiece Wimbush, 32, of Wyandanch, and her five children, ranging in age from 4 months to 12 years of age, were transported by a relative to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for evaluation, police said.
Coolbaugh was pronounced dead at the scene. It was the second fatal motorcycle crash in Suffolk on Sunday. Hours earlier, Marlon Meza, 29, of Copiague, died after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car making a U-turn in Lindenhurst.
Detectives are asking anyone with information on either crash to call the First Precinct at 631-854-8152.
