Suffolk County police are investigating after a pedestrian was struck crossing the street in Brentwood late Friday night.

A female pedestrian was crossing Third Avenue in Brentwood at about 11:53 p.m. as a 2005 Nissan was driving westbound on the road, police said Saturday.

The female driver, 19, attempted to swerve, but still hit the pedestrian. The driver called police and remained at the scene.

Police said the pedestrian was taken to Southside Hospital with serious injuries.
