A Brentwood man was killed Tuesday in Islandia after an 18-wheel tractor-trailer struck his vehicle, Suffolk police said.
Carlos Santiago, 35, of Polly Drive, was in a Honda going north on Motor Parkway just before 1:15 p.m. when the tractor-trailer heading west on a Long Island Expressway service road crashed into his vehicle, police said.
Santiago was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The tractor trailer-driver, William Garrison, 56, of Frankfort, Indiana, was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The accident shut down Motor Parkway in both directions at the Long Island Expressway for hours, along with the westbound service road and southbound Veterans Memorial Highway, police said.
Garrison's vehicle was inspected at the scene by the Suffolk County Motor Carrier Safety Section and the Honda was impounded for a safety check, police said.
Fourth Precinct detectives have been investigating and ask anyone with information on the crash to call them at 631-854-8452.
