Cops: Boy, 13, crashed car with teen passengers
The 13-year-old boy who crashed his mother's car into the woods in Ridge on Friday was driving with three other teens when it happened, police said.
The driver, whose name was not released, was conscious but suffered head injuries and was taken by helicopter to Stony Brook University Medical Center, police said.
Two other boys, ages 16 and 13, were also injured. One was taken to St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson and the other was taken to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson.
The third passenger, a 14-year-old-girl, declined medical treatment.
None of the injuries were life-threatening, police said.
The crash occurred about 1:19 p.m. off Giant Oak Road, police said.
The car was totaled and the case remains under investigation.
Child Protective Services was notified of the incident, police said.
Under New York State law, children younger than 16 are not allowed to drive, even if they have a learner's permit or a driver's license from states that allow younger children behind the wheel.
