A reckless driver crashed through shrubs and fences in Southampton, then bailed out of his car with two long guns, town police said Monday.

State troopers arrested Damon E. Moore, 47, of Southampton, at the Shinnecock Indian Reservation shortly after the crash Thursday, police said.

He had driven his unregistered and uninsured car in a "reckless manner" east on Montauk Highway near Tuckahoe Lane, and when he lost control, he drove through hedges, shrubs and fences, police said.

He armed himself with the guns and ran off as officers from the town, Southampton Village and state trooper responded to the scene, Southampton Town police said.

State police arrested him on an outstanding warrant and town police charged him with reckless driving, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal mischief, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident and four counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Other details, including arraignment information, were not immediately available Monday night.
