East Hampton OKs 2 to fill vacancies in attorneys office
NancyLynn Thiele and Hope De Lauter were appointed assistant attorneys for East Hampton at a town board meeting Thursday night.
There were two vacancies following the appointment of former assistant attorney Michael Sendlenski to town attorney and the resignation of former town attorney Elizabeth Vail.
“We had a number of qualified applicants and picked the two that would make the town attorney team the strongest,” Sendlenski said.
Thiele, 53, of Sag Harbor, is senior counsel for the State Senate Codes Committee and wife of Assemb. Fred Thiele (I-Sag Harbor). She will be paid $93,000 a year.
New Southampton Supervisor Jay Schneiderman said earlier this week that Thiele was his top pick in his search for a town attorney.
“I’m disappointed that NancyLynn Thiele has withdrawn her name from consideration and felt she was an excellent candidate for Town Attorney,” Schneiderman wrote in an email responding to Thiele taking the job in East Hampton. “She had my full support. I had planned to move her appointment when the full board was seated in early February.”
De Lauter, 33, of Lake Grove, restructures Chapter 11 bankruptcies for the New Hyde Park-based Garden City Group. She is married to Jacob De Lauter, an assistant Suffolk County District attorney who was assigned to the East End and is now assigned to Hauppauge.
“I’m very excited,” De Lauter, who will be paid $75,000 annually, said in a telephone interview Thursday. “I’m looking forward to being out there [in East Hampton], and it’s a great opportunity to be in the courtroom.”
The appointees did not attend Thursday night’s meeting, and Thiele could not immediately be reached for comment.
Town Supervisor Larry Cantwell said Thiele and De Lauter will be great additions to the attorneys office, which has three assistant town attorneys.
