A Coram man indicted in a May 10 hit-and-run accident in a Coram parking lot that left a 30-year-old man seriously injured pleaded not guilty Thursday to a charge of leaving the scene of an accident without reporting, prosecutors said.

Elvis Espinal, 32, of 31 Fife Dr., was released on his own recognizance following his arraignment in Suffolk County Court.

Espinal struck Joel Ruiz, 30, at about 10:40 p.m., as Ruiz walked in the Plaza 99 shopping center lot, the Suffolk County district attorney's office said in a news release.

Ruiz "is recovering from head injuries," prosecutors said.

Espinal was arrested about 25 hours after the accident.
