A young Florida couple had to be rescued by emergency responders in a boat after police said they fell asleep in their car at a marina in Mastic Beach -- and tidal floodwaters stranded them in 3 feet of water.

The identities of the couple, who are from Deltona, Fla., were not released other than to say they are a 21-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman.

Volunteers from the Mastic Beach Fire Department were able to reach the man and woman using what police called "a rescue watercraft."

The two were then transported by Mastic Beach Ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital in East Patchogue for evaluation. Police said no injuries were reported and said the two were later released.
