Foley nursing home patient burned in fire
A patient at Suffolk County's John J. Foley nursing home was injured Thursday afternoon in a fire that began in the patient's room, officials said.
The blaze was reported at about 3:40 p.m. inside a room on the Yaphank facility's second floor. One patient, who was not identified, suffered second-degree burns and was taken to a hospital, said Vanessa Baird-Streeter, a county spokeswoman.
Officials closed the area where the fire was contained, and transferred its patients to a vacant wing. Damage was not extensive, Baird-Streeter said, and the affected patients are expected to be moved back by Friday morning.
No one else was injured, she said. A cause for the fire was not immediately released.
