Guardians of Rescue relocate 15 feral cats living near co-op

Fifteen feral cats in Coram have a new home thanks to a Smithtown-based nonprofit.
For the past several years, Gary Lamm, 61, has put food out for a colony of feral cats living in a wooded area near his Coram co-op. But in August, Lamm said co-op management prohibited him and his girlfriend from feeding the animals.
A representative for the co-op could not be reached for comment.
Fearing for the cats’ well-being, Lamm turned to animal rescue group, Guardians of Rescue, for help trapping and relocating the 15 felines.
Over the course of two and a half months, Guardians of Rescue founder Robert Misseri and volunteer Billy Hale, a former NYPD officer, captured the cats using traps. They were then taken to Happy Cat Sanctuary, a Coram-based nonprofit that houses and provides medical care for cats.
“Knowing that they’ll remain safe, and we won’t have to worry about whether or not they will be fed makes me feel like I’ve done my job,” Misseri said.
All the cats have been spayed or neutered and are comfortably settled in their new home, Misseri said.
