A vacant Kings Park pub and barbershop, which were destroyed in a February 2025 fire, collapsed Tuesday as crews were performing interior demolition work, officials said.
The Kings Park Fire Department responded to the two connected buildings, at the corner of Main and Henry streets, for a report of a building failure, officials said.
Photos from the scene show the remains of the Main Street Pub, which was destroyed in a blaze just days before the Kings Park St. Patrick's Day Parade last year, and Euro Barber Shop, located next door, had collapsed, with glass, wood planks and parts of the facade littering the sidewalk.
Thomas Jacino, first assistant chief of the Smithtown Fire Department, said demolition crews hired to clean out the interior of the building removed the wrong supports, "and the building came down."
The crew escaped from the building without injury, and a crew hired by the Smithtown Building Department will knock down the remains of the building later on Tuesday, Jacino said.
Smithtown Town officials did not respond to requests for comment.
Suffolk County police said they closed the road on Main Street from Church Street to Pulaski Road.
The late-night Feb. 25, 2025, fire destroyed the two Smithtown businesses. The bar, which first opened in 1994, was occupied with patrons at the time of the fire, shortly before 11 p.m.
There were no injuries to the patrons — one firefighter was transported to a hospital for minor injuries — and the buildings sustained major fire and water damage.
