Mark Collins, Suffolk police officer shot in Huntington Station traffic stop, to leave hospital Sunday, cops say

The Suffolk police officer who was wounded while pursuing a suspect late Wednesday will be discharged Sunday from Stony Brook University Hospital, police officials said.
Mark Collins, 35, a member of the department's gang unit, was shot in the neck and hip following a Huntington Station traffic stop.
Collins, a decorated 12-year veteran assigned to the Second Precinct, was upgraded to good condition Saturday, police said.
Authorities said the fleeing suspect, Sheldon Leftenant, 22, of Mastic Beach, fired four times at Collins, hitting him twice.
Leftenant, who is being held without bail, has pleaded not guilty to attempted aggravated murder and resisting arrest. He faces 40 years to life in prison if convicted.
