Officers investigating a rash of thefts from cars in Lindenhurst have charged a local resident with stealing electronic devices from unlocked cars, Suffolk police said Thursday.

Matthew Hyland, 26, stole two GPS devices and a cellphone, police said. He was arrested Wednesday on three counts of petty larceny and three counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

First Precinct crime section officers, who made the arrest, are trying to determine if Hyland is also responsible for other car thefts.

The thefts occurred on Friday and Wednesday, according to online court records.

Hyland, of 4 Lido Pkwy., was expected to be arraigned Thursday.
