Suffolk police said they have arrested a Brentwood man Tuesday and charged him with robbing a Hauppauge branch of Bank of America.

Nicholas Arettines, 31, of 32 Doolittle St., was charged with third-degree robbery and was being held at the Fourth Precinct overnight. He is due to be arraigned Wednesday in First District Court in Central Islip.

Police said Arettines entered the Bank of America at 190 Motor Pkwy. about 4 p.m. Tuesday and gave a teller a note demanding cash. The teller complied and Arettines left the bank, police said, adding that he may have had a vehicle waiting for him.

Officers responded to the scene and determined that Arettines had fled to the vicinity of Brentwood State Park, where he was arrested shortly before 5 p.m.
