Ocean Bay Park on Fire Island will be sprayed Wednesday with the pesticide sumithrin as part of a Suffolk County effort to reduce the mosquito population.

All streets in the village will be sprayed from 6 to 10 p.m. with the low-concentration aerosol pesticide, county health officials said.

Children and pregnant women should take care to avoid exposure when practical, the health department advised. State health officials say it is unlikely, for most people, that adverse health effects will occur as a result of such spraying.
