Two people were rushed to the hospital after being involved in a two-vehicle crash near Echo Avenue and Route 25A in Sound Beach, shutting down traffic Monday afternoon, officials said.

A woman driving a Toyota Corolla was found unconscious and had to be cut out of her car, officials said. She then was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, according to the Mount Sinai Fire Department.

Her car was struck in the driver-side door, a fire official said. The other vehicle’s driver also was taken to a hospital, fire officials said.

Circumstances surrounding the crash were not disclosed. Westbound traffic on Route 25A was shut down for several hours.

Suffolk County police said officers responded to the crash shortly before 2:25 p.m.

The crash remains under investigation.
