Police ID Ronkonkoma fatal crash victim
One man was killed when two trucks collided about 12:40 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Hawkins Avenue and Express Drive North in Ronkonkoma. The impact sent this Dodge Ram pickup more than 60 feet before it struck a building and a tree; its driver was later pronounced dead at Stony Brook University Medical Center. The man killed in a Saturday morning car accident on Hawkins Avenue in Ronkonkoma has been identified as Scott Spiotta, 40, of Bohemia.
The crash occurred at about 12:40 a.m. at Express Drive North, Suffolk police have said. John Gentilella, 57, of Centereach, was driving a Ford F350 north on Hawkins Avenue when his truck hit Spiotta's Dodge Ram, which was travelling west, police have said.
Spiotta, who lived on Sycamore Avenue, was pronounced dead at Stony Brook University Medical Center less than an hour later, police have said.
Gentilella was not injured in the accident, and the investigation is continuing, police have said.
