Police say 'cloned' card used to buy formula in Holbrook
A Queens man was arrested Tuesday, charged with using a "cloned" credit card to purchase baby formula at a supermarket in Holbrook.
Suffolk County police said Ruomin Huang had been spotted by store security guards in the Pathmark on Sunrise Highway making a similar purchase in September, leading the store to contact the police Identity Theft Unit.
Tuesday, security guards tried to stop him, but Huang fled, police said. He was caught a short time later on nearby Broadway Avenue.
Police said Huang, 22, of 81st Street, Elmhurst, was charged with one count of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument for the incident Tuesday and one count of second-degree identity theft for the incident on Sept. 4.
Police said gift cards encoded with stolen credit card numbers were recovered during the arrest - and said Identity Theft detectives are attempting to locate those cardholders.
Huang was scheduled for arraignment Wednesday in First District Court, Central Islip.
