Investigators are trying to determine the identity of a man driving a pickup truck with an Illinois registration who was killed when his truck ran off the road Sunday night in Flanders, striking a tree, police said.

The one-vehicle crash occurred on Flanders Road, west of Red Creek Road, at about 7:50 p.m., Southampton Town police said. Volunteers from the Flanders and Hampton Bays fire departments responded, as did a crew from Hampton Bays Ambulance.

Police said the driver of the pickup, a Dodge Ram 1500, died at the accident scene. Police said his identity is unknown -- and investigators are asking anyone with information about the driver or the crash to call the detective division at 631-702-2230.
