The Port Jefferson branch was on or close to schedule shortly after the morning rush hour Monday after service had been suspended between Huntington and Hicksville because a non-passenger train hit a car, the LIRR said.

The train hit a car on the tracks just west of the Huntington station at about 7:30 a.m., and service between Huntington and Hicksville was suspended in both directions until about 9 a.m., according to spokesman Salvatore Arena.

Delays of as long as 60 minutes followed, the Long Island Rail Road said, before an email alert at about 10:45 a.m. said that the branch was on or close to schedule.

Arena said the car was hit on the tracks on West Pulaski Road, just west of the Huntington station.

A woman in the car was injured but Arena said he was not sure about the extent of her injuries or whether she was taken to the hospital.

Arena said after the train hit the car the woman was "walking around," saying she had been injured.
