Two men, including one who caused a car accident while fleeing officers, were arrested Monday in connection with a home invasion last week, Southampton Town police said Wednesday.

Officers were trying to capture Roy Jones Jr., 28, of Shirley, in the parking lot of the UA Theatre in Hampton Bays when he took off in a Hyundai and drove recklessly on Springville Road to get away, police said.

Two blocks away, Jones crashed into another vehicle, sending a 23-year-old Hampton Bays woman to the hospital with serious injuries, police said.

But Jones was able to run away, and when officers caught up with him, he fought them, injuring one officer, who was treated at a hospital and released, police said.

Jones was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead for his crash injuries and was arraigned at his hospital bedside on charges of first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, fourth-degree conspiracy, assault on a police officer, leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injury, unlawfully fleeing a police officer, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration, police said. Bail was set at $300,000 bond or $100,000 cash. He was to get a court-appointed attorney.

His accomplice, Charles M. Schruggs, 27, of Riverhead, also was arrested Monday and arraigned on first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary and fourth-degree conspiracy, police said. Bail was set at $50,000 bond or $25,000 cash. He was to be assigned a Legal Aid attorney.

Police said they were two of the three men who busted into a Flanders home shortly after 1 a.m. Nov. 10. They hid their faces and brandished weapons, a box cutter, handgun and a shotgun, but did not hurt the Flanders Road homeowner while taking $1,000 from the house, police said.

Minutes later, police got a call about three men trying to kick in the door of an Albany Avenue property, authorities said. They failed and left, and the homeowner's description of the suspects matched the ones in the robbery, police said.
