Skeletal remains found near school, but cause of death noncriminal, authorities say

Human skeletal remains were found Thursday morning near St. John Paul II Regional School on Marcy Avenue in Riverhead, according to Suffolk County police.
Homicide Squad detectives have determined the cause of death to be noncriminal, authorities said.
Identification of the individual is being withheld pending notification of kin.
Homicide Squad detectives were notified of the discovery at 10:15 a.m. They, along with K-9 units, members of the Suffolk County Crime Laboratory and Riverhead police were on the scene at the school investigating the discovery Thursday morning and afternoon.
Suffolk police did not provide additional details about the remains.
