Sports Authority robbery suspect sought
Suffolk detectives on Tuesday released video, photographs and a sketch of a suspect they say used a handgun to rob a Stony Brook sports outlet.
Police said the lone robber entered the Sports Authority store on Nesconset Highway in Stony Brook on Aug. 14 about 9 p.m. The man struck up a conversation with a store clerk, then pulled a handgun from his waistband and demanded to be taken to an office in the back.
Once in the back office, the suspect forced the store manager and the clerk to open a safe, give him an undetermined amount of cash and then escort him to a rear exit.
The suspect is in his late 30s or early 40s, about 5-foot-10 with a medium build, brown hair and a graying mustache, police said.
He wore a blue hooded jacket, jeans and a camouflage baseball cap with a yellow Superman insignia on the front.
Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers, 800-220-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
