The National Weather Service said Long Island and other parts of the region may see flooding from showers and thunderstorms Thursday and Friday, but the rainfall is not expected to match the ferocity of last weekend's drenching.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms "will be capable of producing locally heavy rain, which may lead to at least localized flooding ... and perhaps a renewal of more widespread flooding," the weather service said in a hazardous weather outlook advisory Thursday morning.

Later in the morning, weather service meteorologist Lauren Nash said the flooding won't be as bad as last week. "It's going to be more of a showery situation. If you get slow-moving thunderstorms developing over a small area, there could be a chance of flooding. [Last] Sunday's was more widespread and heavy," she said

There is a chance of showers through the weekend and Monday, with the forecast calling for sunny skies on Tuesday.
