A Bay Shore man was killed and another man injured in a single-car crash on Sunrise Highway in Center Moriches on Thursday morning, police said.

Salvador Zarate-Mozo was driving a 2009 Nissan Altima east on Sunrise Highway near Exit 59 when his car left the road and hit a tree on the south side of the road around 5:25 a.m., Suffolk police said in a statement.

Zarate-Mozo, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Jose Ferreira-Cruz, 57, was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The Altima was impounded for a safety check, police said.

That portion of Sunrise Highway was closed by authorities around 5:43 a.m. according to the 511NY website. It has since reopened.

It was one of at least two closures of the road early Thursday morning. A section to the west, near Exit 39 (Hubbard's Path), was closed as police investigated the shooting of a teenager, who was critically injured, while he was driving. That section of the road also has reopened.
