Laura Gullotti, mother of 6, identified as victim in fatal Wading River crash

Laura Gullotti is shown in a family handout photo. The mother of six was killed in a crash on Saturday night in Wading River, police said.
A Long Island mother of six returning home from a visit with her grandchildren died on Saturday night after her vehicle overturned in Wading River, throwing her from the vehicle, family and authorities said.
Laura Gullotti, 58, who had been staying in Wading River, was driving on Wading River Manor Road when she crashed around 10:20 p.m. coming back from her daughter’s house in Shirley, according to her son Paul Hubbard.
She was thrown from the vehicle in the crash and pronounced dead at the scene, Suffolk police said.
Gullotti’s previously estranged husband, William Hubbard, 57, was in the vehicle, according to Paul Hubbard. He was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead with serious injuries, authorities said.
William Hubbard reentered the family’s life after their children had grown, his son said, and they lived together.

Her children, ranging in ages from 29 to 40, had several children of their own and Gullotti doted on them, Paul Hubbard said.
"That was her pride and joy," said Hubbard, 36, of Mastic.
A home health aide, who raised her children as a single mother most of her life, Gullotti became disabled with diabetes and high blood pressure in recent years and began receiving Social Security disability support, according to the son.
She was a hard-working woman, Paul Hubbard said, who raised her sons and daughter mostly alone.
"She did all that she could for her six kids," Hubbard said. "She raised us by herself for a long, long time."
Besides her grandchildren, Gullotti found comfort in living by the ocean.
"She liked going to the beach to watch the sunset," he said.
An investigation continued into the cause of the crash, said police, who provided no further information.
